Caching is the single highest-impact speed improvement you can make on a WordPress site — and the plugin market for it is crowded with overlapping claims. I install caching plugins on client sites for a living, so instead of a feature-list dump, here is the practical version: three plugins genuinely worth your attention in 2026, what each one actually does well, and which one fits your hosting setup.
Short version: there is no single “best” caching plugin. The right answer depends almost entirely on your host.
How I compare them
Everything below comes from configuring these plugins on real client sites — WooCommerce stores, service business sites, and content sites — not from vendor feature pages. I care about four things: measurable Core Web Vitals improvement, how much configuration it takes to get there, how it behaves with WooCommerce, and whether the pricing is honest.
WP Rocket — the safe default that costs money
WP Rocket remains the plugin I hand to clients who will manage their own site after handover. Page caching, browser caching, delayed JavaScript execution, lazy loading, and database cleanup all work properly out of the box, and the default settings are sensible enough that a non-technical owner will not break anything.
What it does well: the onboarding is the best in the category. Activate it and you get a real speed improvement before touching a single setting. Support is responsive and the documentation is genuinely good.
What it does badly: it is no longer the outright performance leader. On aggressive Core Web Vitals testing, FlyingPress and LiteSpeed Cache now edge it out, mainly because of how they handle critical CSS and JavaScript payloads. And there is no free version at all.
Pricing (verified July 2026): Single $59/year (1 site), Plus $119/year (3 sites), Infinite $299/year (unlimited). All tiers have identical features. The Infinite licence is the quiet bargain for agencies — at six or more sites it is cheaper per site than anything comparable.

LiteSpeed Cache — the best free option, with one big condition
LiteSpeed Cache is free and, on the right server, better than anything you can pay for. The condition: your host must run LiteSpeed Web Server (or OpenLiteSpeed). That is what unlocks its server-level page caching — a genuine architectural advantage over any PHP-level plugin, WP Rocket included.
What it does well: server-side caching, built-in image optimisation, and CSS/JS handling that PHP-level plugins cannot match. Many quality budget hosts (Hostinger, A2, NameHero, and most hosts using LiteSpeed) support it natively — in which case installing anything else is throwing money away.
What it does badly: the settings panel is intimidating — there are a lot of switches, and a wrong combination can break a WooCommerce checkout. Budget 2–3 hours to configure and test it properly. On non-LiteSpeed servers it loses most of its advantage.
Pricing: free. Some optimisation services run through the QUIC.cloud CDN with a free tier and paid credits beyond it.
FlyingPress — the performance enthusiast’s pick
FlyingPress is the newest of the three and has built its reputation on one thing: squeezing the best possible Core Web Vitals out of ordinary hosting. Its critical CSS is generated server-side (on their infrastructure, not yours) and the JavaScript it ships to visitors is the leanest of the three.
What it does well: on cheap shared hosting, it consistently produces better mobile scores than WP Rocket in my testing — lazy rendering and self-hosted critical CSS are the difference. Configuration sits between WP Rocket’s simplicity and LiteSpeed’s complexity.
What it does badly: it is a small team compared to WP Rocket’s, which matters if you are handing a site to a client who will need vendor support for years. Fewer agencies know it, and documentation is thinner.

What about the free classics — W3 Total Cache and WP Super Cache?
They still work, and on a tight budget they are better than nothing. But both require more manual configuration to approach the results the three plugins above deliver, and neither has kept pace on Core Web Vitals-specific optimisation (critical CSS, JS delay, lazy rendering). If you qualify for LiteSpeed Cache, use that instead — it is also free and much stronger.

Which one should you choose?
- Your host runs LiteSpeed: use LiteSpeed Cache. It is free and nothing else exploits your server better. Check your hosting panel or ask support — many people are on LiteSpeed without knowing it.
- Cheap shared hosting, and you care about mobile scores: FlyingPress. Best raw Core Web Vitals for the money.
- Client sites, agencies, or you want zero fuss: WP Rocket. Predictable, safe, superbly supported — and the unlimited licence is great value at scale. It is what I install when someone else will maintain the site.
- No budget and no LiteSpeed server: WP Super Cache to start, but plan to upgrade — the paid options genuinely pay for themselves in Core Web Vitals.
The verdict
If I could only keep one for client work, it would still be WP Rocket — not because it wins every benchmark (it doesn’t anymore), but because it is the one I can hand over and trust. If you are optimising your own site and enjoy tuning, LiteSpeed Cache on a LiteSpeed host or FlyingPress on shared hosting will get you slightly better numbers for less money.
